Car accident in Atlanta

In a tragic event in the Atlanta metro area, Gwinnett County Police have reported a fatal accident occurring on a westbound ramp of State Route 316 to southbound Interstate 85. Early Monday morning, around 4 a.m., a pickup truck went off the ramp wall and overturned, resulting in the deaths of all five teenage occupants.

Responding officers arrived at the scene after receiving several 911 calls alerting them to the crash. The vehicle had flipped over the wall and landed on the collector-distributor road adjacent to southbound Interstate 85 that leads to Pleasant Hill Road. The severity of the accident prompted road closures in the affected areas of State Route 316 and I-85 for an extended period, causing disruptions throughout Labor Day. Traffic flow was restored by Tuesday.

According to Sgt. Michele Pihera, the spokesperson for the Gwinnett County Police, firefighters pronounced five individuals deceased at the site of the accident. The deceased were identified as Katy Gaitan, age 17; Ashley Gaitan, age 16; Coral Lorenzo, age 17; Hung Nguyen, age 18; and Abner Santana, age 19. It was confirmed that all five were traveling in the pickup that tragically fell from the ramp.
